Living life on your own terms is a recurring theme in our latest chat, where I, Wioleta, dive into the world of songs that celebrate being single. Picture this: you’re sitting alone, maybe sipping coffee, and the tunes are all about love and heartbreak. But what about the anthems that shout out to solo living? I went on a quest to curate a playlist that captures the essence of embracing singlehood without the baggage of breakups or dating woes. It turns out, finding these songs is like hunting for the last slice of pizza at a party—everyone wants it, but there’s not much left! Sure, we all know the hits like Lizzo’s “Good As Hell” and Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers,” but they often dance around the breakup blues. I wanted to highlight tracks that truly celebrate the solo journey, the joys of living life for oneself. If you have any gems in mind, I’m all ears! And hey, if you’re feeling a bit lonely sometimes, remember it's totally natural to crave companionship. We discuss the importance of balancing that desire with a healthy appreciation for your own company. After all, who says you can’t have a blast solo? So crank up the tunes, dance like no one’s watching, and let’s toast to the single life!

Do you know any songs that are just about living life solo? Welcome or welcome back. I'm your host, Wioleta, and this is all about being single.
I initially wanted to write this episode with a list of songs that are about just living life single, solo.
And the problem I'm running into is a lot of songs are either, you know, right post breakup, so they're kind of like a reaction to the breakup and the strong feelings that surround the breakup, or, you know, they're about dating. And I know that obviously. I do believe that dating and healing from breakup is part of also being solo a lot of living solo a lot of times.
But I really just wanted to find songs that are just about. Okay. Living life solo can be great. Right? And, I mean, there's some songs and some of these I did not. So I actually had to involve AI in this.
And sorry, if you're against AI. I'm a realist. And it's just. It's part of the universe right now. So I do use AI sometimes, but. So, I mean, I've heard, like, Good As Hell by Lizzo.
I do think it's a very good song. Again, written post breakup, but definitely, definitely a pretty good song. Then there's Flowers by Miley Cyrus, but kind of similar.
Yeah, there's just a lot. I mean, there's Girls Just Want to have Fun, I think by Cyndi Lauper. Yeah, there's really just not that many songs Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield.
That one I definitely know of. There's apparently Song Called Solitude Is Bliss by T Tame Impala. I've never heard of it. I'll have to listen to it By Myself by Karen White.
Again, I've also never heard it, but worth checking out me time. Jasmine Sullivan. Treat Myself, Megan Taylor. Again, in this search, it was hard to just find these songs.
And some of the ones I just mentioned I did not vet, so don't quote me on them because I use Epidemic Sound for the songs that I use throughout the episodes. And I'm extremely lucky that I was able to find the song that I use for my intro and my outro, it's called For Myself by Starlight.
And it really does actually fit into, like, this kind of thing that I'm looking for. And this episode was even inspired by the first guest that I had, and I still have to put out that episode. So that's coming up soon.
But he asked me about songs about being single, and I was like, I can't really come up with many. Most of them are, again, about like dating relationships or just post breakup blues or trying to get over it. Another one.
And this isn't necessarily about, like living single, but I do think a lot of times when you're living single, you know, you're feeling lonely.
Especially for me, like the times when, like, I'm feeling lonely and I'm going through a hard time, you know, I have zero idea if I'll ever get married or have kids. The things that I want or even with the house remodel that I've been having, you know, I'm just. I've been very stressed out.
I recently got an ordinance from the town or the city that I live in. And I mentioned this in a previous episode, how my weeds around my house are super bad and outgrown. Like, I mean, super tall.
Like, you know, some of them, like probably 8ft long weeds. And it's like the prickly kind, of course. So I had.
I got an ordinance because I've just been neglecting that because I've been trying to focus on the inside of the house and finishing that.
And so, like a song that I will listen to when I'm just going through hard times is Move along by American Rejects kind of, you know, I mean, it's not really here nor there, but I do think that helps when you're just going through a hard time. But so a hill I'll die on.
You know, I think there's so much rhetoric about normal not being a true thing to compare things to and the easiest way of saying things, you know, and if you've done self help or like therapy, you know, they always talk about, well, nothing is normal, or like, what is. What does normal even mean?
But I think what we really should be asking is not what's normal, that even there's anything, if there is anything that's normal. But we really should be asking what's natural?
Like what's natural for human beings, you know, and it is being in tribes, it is partnering up and having kids. Those are all natural human being things.
And it's exactly what confirms for those of us who want to be coupled up that it's okay that we want these things because. Because they're fucking natural wants and needs.
And I think even, you know, in this pop culture, all the songs that we don't have about being single and how that can be such a great thing is a reflection of how it's natural to want those things, to not want to be just single forever. So, yeah, it's not about whether it's normal or not. It's about what's natural.
And again, if you've listened to me, I do believe you deserve to be as happy as you can whether you're single or not single. But it's also natural for us to want partnership and not to be alone forever.
So the no lag to stand on is anyone who, like, tries to tell me that I, you know, just need to learn to be okay being by myself indefinitely. It's usually coming from somebody who's partnered up.
And it's easy to say that when you're not single for long periods of time and you don't actually understand our feelings of being. Being single and not knowing if we'll get the things that we want, like a family of our own.
But all that to say if you know of any good songs that are, you know, maybe about celebrating the single life, because I would like to know more. I would like to hear more of those. Those kinds of songs.
And I do think it is also a good idea to learn to be as okay with being single as you can, you know, while still wanting to be coupled up. Again, it's natural to want to be coupled up, but it's also a good idea to, you know, live life by the day that you're in.
And if you're single, then you're single. And, you know, there's only. There's room, obviously, for grieving that and for not being happy with it.
And it's okay if you're not completely happy with it, but there is also a lot of value in just learning to be okay with it as much as you can, because that is just your reality at the time. And it wouldn't hurt if we had some good songs that celebrate us just living solo.
You know, that could be something that helps us get through this season and maybe teaches us, you know, how to celebrate being single a little bit more. And I just believe that music, you know, songs, I mean, they've been around.
They've been around for so long, you know, they're always just healing, so talk about healing.
Our glow up for this week is just find the song that you love that's about being single, if you can find one, or about what you want in the future or, you know, even a breakup song, whatever. It doesn't even have to be just a single. A song about being single.
Just find a song that you love, just one song for this week and dance to it every day this week. Just, you know, maybe randomly or at a specific time of the day, whatever works.
Whether it's at your house, in your car, outside, if you're brave, just.
Just find some healing through just going and singing along with the lyrics, which actually singing is good for your vagus nerve and by just releasing some feelings, you know, through that act of dancing. So that's really just our glow up. Just commit to dancing to just one song each day this week.
I promise you it'll make you feel better once you're dancing and after you're done dancing. And on that note, we're done with the episode.
We did not do our dance break, but again, the song that I always play at the end at the outro, it's called For Myself by Starlight. So feel free to dance to it. Again, it is a song about being single, which I love, and about making life for yourself, which we deserve. And we are.
We are doing that daily whether we end up being partnered or not. And I hope for all of us who want it that we do, but for now, we're not. So let's. Let's make a life for ourselves.
So if this episode resonated with you, please take a moment and share with somebody else. I really appreciate you listening and I appreciate you sharing it with a friend.
I hope you have a good rest of your week and I'll talk to you next Tuesday.
