Celebrating Life's Small, Logistical and Practical Wins as a Single Person | Episode 42

This week, we’re diving into the concept of celebrating small wins because, let’s be real, a win is a win! I’ve been knee-deep in a house remodel that’s dragging on like a bad Netflix series, and it made me realize how often we overlook the little victories in our lives. Whether it’s finishing that DIY project, getting through a tough day at work, or even just showing up to an event solo, those moments matter just as much as the big milestones. So, I’m sharing my own journey of juggling home renovations, podcasting, and life in general, while encouraging you to give yourself a pat on the back for those everyday achievements. Join me as we explore why it’s crucial to acknowledge those practical wins that keep us moving forward, even when the going gets tough!

Reflecting on the little victories that often go unnoticed can be a game changer, especially when life feels like a relentless to-do list. In this episode, I dive into my chaotic journey of remodeling my house—a project that’s been dragging on for nearly six years. It’s a bit like trying to tame a wild beast; at first, it was exhilarating, but now it feels like I'm grappling with a toxic relationship. I share my highs and lows, from learning new DIY skills to the fatigue of making endless decisions. Sometimes, just showing up is a win worth celebrating, even if it’s just to finish a bathroom tile job or attend a singles event solo. Life isn't just about major milestones; it's about the daily wins that keep us moving forward, and trust me, they count just as much, if not more. So whether you finally asked someone out or just managed to smile at a stranger, give yourself some credit. Each small step is a step toward something bigger, and I encourage everyone to reflect on their own wins, no matter how trivial they may seem.

Takeaways:

  • This episode highlights that small wins, like finishing a home project, truly matter.
  • Life is filled with daily accomplishments that often go unnoticed but are vital for growth.
  • Being single can amplify the pressure to achieve big milestones, yet small victories count too.
  • Even mundane tasks, such as caulking, remind us that every step forward is a win.
  • Your daily decisions, no matter how small, keep your life on track and should be celebrated.
  • In the chaos of life, remember that showing up is a win in itself, don't sell yourself short.

What's a small win you've had this week that nobody else would think is a big deal?

Speaker A:

Welcome back or welcome to All About Being Single.

Speaker A:

I'm Violeta, your host.

Speaker A:

This episode is going to be short because life is truly lifeing right now for me.

Speaker A:

If you've been listening, I'm in the thick of just trying to finish my house remodel that's been going on for, like, on and off, basically for, like, honestly, it's almost six years now.

Speaker A:

In October is when I think I purchased this house.

Speaker A:

So it feels like it's been this toxic relationship just starting out great.

Speaker A:

You know, I learned a lot of skills through doing the remodel, and I've done a lot of the bulk of it myself, like, actually physically doing stuff, learning how to do stuff, Googling and researching all of that.

Speaker A:

But, yeah, so it feels like this toxic relationship where it started out so super great and then just became toxic, horrible towards the end.

Speaker A:

And I'm like, in the end part where, like, I'm just not really enjoying much of anything I'm doing, but I have to finish it, basically.

Speaker A:

I shouldn't say anything.

Speaker A:

I mean, there's parts of it that I enjoy and, like, once I'm done with a project, I feel great.

Speaker A:

But if you've ever done DIY stuff, every time you think you're done with a part of something, you're actually not done.

Speaker A:

And it's sometimes, like, the little things that take so long.

Speaker A:

Like, even little things like caulking just take forever sometimes.

Speaker A:

Just every day feels like there's just one more thing to do.

Speaker A:

And I really have, like, almost like a hard deadline, like a hard stop at the end of this month, the beginning of next month.

Speaker A:

Just because this has gone on for so long and I just don't want to keep thinking about it.

Speaker A:

I just want to live in this house.

Speaker A:

So, you know, it's a lot of me just doing a.

Speaker A:

Making a lot of decisions every day.

Speaker A:

Every day I'm trying to do something to, like, keep the project going, going, and it's just.

Speaker A:

It's a lot while having a job while, you know, having this podcast, hosting singles events.

Speaker A:

Like, it's just.

Speaker A:

It's a lot.

Speaker A:

And I feel like I'm just neglecting a lot of the other stuff because I need to finish this.

Speaker A:

So I'm not putting my all into, like, everything else on a positive note.

Speaker A:

Thankfully, I live close to, like, a Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards.

Speaker A:

That's a Midwest one.

Speaker A:

If you've never heard about it and a harbor freight.

Speaker A:

So, like, at least I have access to.

Speaker A:

Oh, and a floor in the core, so I have access to like a lot of the stores at least very close by.

Speaker A:

But anyhow, I've just been exhausted from all the decision making, the hard labor.

Speaker A:

Just every stage of this last project has given me an issue of some sort that I either never have had with other projects, and I have remodeled the bathroom before, but just.

Speaker A:

Just the products that I needed weren't around, the products that I used that I knew how to use.

Speaker A:

So to relearn stuff, it's just been a lot.

Speaker A:

So it's been hard for me to even write episodes because I'm just so exhausted all around and just living on energy drinks and like cheat meals because I just don't have enough time or even mental space to like plan meals and cook anything.

Speaker A:

So it's really almost like been just the stuff that's keeping me going so I can just finish on time and just be done once and for all.

Speaker A:

And so I thought about something the other day, and that's what this short episode is about.

Speaker A:

Just kind of like the fact that a win is a win is a win.

Speaker A:

And a lot of times we don't look at like, the logistical, the practical wins that we do have every day.

Speaker A:

And sometimes just like showing up is still a win.

Speaker A:

And you know, for me, like, I'm late putting out this episode actually, so I do apologize.

Speaker A:

They're normally out very early morning Tuesdays, but this time around, I literally, like I said tile down Saturday morning, that took hours on my floor.

Speaker A:

So I did at least finish the tile job on my floor.

Speaker A:

But then I had a podcast episode with a guest.

Speaker A:

So once I have enough time to like, actually edit it, there will be.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna start having some guest episodes.

Speaker A:

Like, I do still want the show to be mainly a solo episode show, but I will have some guests on.

Speaker A:

So I'm hoping that once I'm done again, I first need to finish this house remodel.

Speaker A:

But once I'm done with that, I will.

Speaker A:

So sometime in July, most likely.

Speaker A:

July or August will have at least for those two months, and if not, kind of forever, at least about like one guest episode per month.

Speaker A:

But anyhow, yeah, I had a guest, so I did an interview with her, she did an interview with me.

Speaker A:

Then I had a single social mixer that I was hosting out by where I live.

Speaker A:

It was just such a long day.

Speaker A:

Obviously a lot of stuff was done, so it felt like a very accomplished day.

Speaker A:

But it was Just a long day.

Speaker A:

And then Sunday, I grouted the whole bathroom.

Speaker A:

So that took a while because I also wanted to make sure that I, like, got that grout haze off.

Speaker A:

So it was.

Speaker A:

It's just been a long weekend.

Speaker A:

I just didn't have enough time to record an episode when I normally do on Saturdays.

Speaker A:

But anyhow, like, I don't want to just yap about my life struggles here, since this podcast is about being single.

Speaker A:

And I actually do think this applies to being single just in general.

Speaker A:

Sometimes when you're single, it's easy to feel like the only ones that count are the big ones, because most people in our highest focus on the big ones.

Speaker A:

And I don't know about you, but, like, a lot of times when I meet with people, they're like, oh, have you been dating?

Speaker A:

You know, so, like, people just focus on getting into relationship, getting promoted, buying a house, you know, like the big ones.

Speaker A:

But what about all the other wins?

Speaker A:

All those practical wins, those daily wins that keep pushing your life forward, that keep expanding you and keep your life on track?

Speaker A:

Like going to an event by yourself, like learning a new skill, maybe finishing a project even though you're exhausted and want to give up.

Speaker A:

Basically finishing things when you're exhausted, but you know they have to be done because you know you'll feel that much lighter once they're done, so you just keep going.

Speaker A:

Or sometimes making the decision to put things off because you have to focus on something else.

Speaker A:

And as a single person, you only have so much energy, time in your day, and just resources, but just showing up when you said you would, based on what you know you need to do, doing something that scares you, getting some form of exercise each day, even when you're tired, because you know the exercise will help.

Speaker A:

Getting through a hard season without giving up those wins may not get celebrated by other people, but they still count.

Speaker A:

In fact, those are the ones that often get overlooked the most, even by us sometimes.

Speaker A:

And life isn't lived only in, like, those happy major milestones.

Speaker A:

It's lived in the small decisions.

Speaker A:

A lot of times, hard decisions and hard things we have to do that we make every day.

Speaker A:

So today my win is getting this episode out while trying to finish a bathroom remodel that's basically taken over my whole fucking life.

Speaker A:

And your win might be something completely different.

Speaker A:

You know, maybe you finally got a ticket to a singles event.

Speaker A:

Maybe you asked someone out on a date or even just smiled at a stranger.

Speaker A:

Maybe you decided not to go on a date.

Speaker A:

Maybe you decided to make a meal, maybe decided to buy a meal, subscription, program, Whatever the case might be, just give yourself credit because a win is a win is a win.

Speaker A:

And I'm skipping out our regular segments today and just ending with a glow up.

Speaker A:

So tonight, just look back on your day and list as many wins that you had.

Speaker A:

I'm sure you can find a lot of them if you go looking.

Speaker A:

If this episode resonates with you, please take a moment and write me a review.

Speaker A:

I would truly appreciate that.

Speaker A:

Thanks so much for listening.

Speaker A:

I hope you have a good rest of your day.

Speaker A:

Again, I apologize for the episode being a little bit later this week, but if you've been here long enough, you know that even if we're late, we're right on time.

Speaker A:

I hope you have a good rest of your day and I will talk to you next time.

Speaker A:

Tuesday.
